March, Breakwater Repairs on North Side of Kelapa Island Completed

Seribu Islands Water Resources Sub-agency (SDA) personnel are carrying out maintenance of the breakwater on the north side of Kelapa Island, Kelapa Island Urban Village, North Seribu Islands Sub-district. It is targeted to be completed in March 2024.

Seribu Islands SDA Sub-agency Head, Hendri said the work included repairing the embankment by reassembling the massive cube which collapsed due to the tidal wave on Monday (2/19).

"We reassembled around 3,000 massive cubes and tied them with nylon rope to make them stronger to withstand the pounding of the sea waves," he expressed, Wednesday (2/28).

He explained the rearrangement of the 450-meter-long massive cube involved six personnel. Currently, 25 meters of work has been completed

"Its existence is important to protect beaches and residential areas from tidal waves which can trigger abrasion," he explained.

RW 01 Chairman, Kelapa Island Urban Village, Sapriudin hoped that it could be done on the set target.

"We thank and appreciate the officers' quick response in repairing the damaged embankment. If it isn't repaired immediately, it will have a bad impact on the coast," he stated.
