Environment Agency Provides Team to Handle Garbage on Ciliwung River

Jakarta Environment Agency's Water Body for Garbage Handling is officially launching Ciliwung Taskforce Unit, Monday (3/4).

The unit is formed to handle garbage along Ciliwung River not only during rainy season, but all year long.

Jakarta Environment Agency Head, Asep Kuswanto, said the unit will assist the agency to handle garbage on Ciliwung River.

"We're optimistic to minimize flood cause by garbage through this unit together with TB Simatupang Garbage Filter," he said on Jakarta Provincial Government press release.

Asep added that the unit will monitor and clean garbage along Ciliwung River thus it is hoped to minimize flood.

"We hope community will also maintain the river cleanliness so that the flood can be minimized," he added.

As for information, the unit was launched by Jakarta Environment Agency's Water Body for Garbage Handling Head, Dadang Cahya Rusdiana, Monday (3/4).

The unit consists 140 personnel from various Sub-district's unit which the area is crossed by the river. The personnel will monitor and handle garbage on the river continuously.

"The personnel is divided into 5 segments started from segment 1 from Menko UI up to TB Simatupang Garbage Filter, segment 2 from TB Simatupang up to Sodetan Ciliwung, segment 3 from Sodetan Ciliwung up to Manggarai Sluice Gate, segment 4 from Manggarai Sluice Gate up to Muara, and segment 5 along Ciliwung River," Dadang explained.

According to him, the personnel are also equipped with rubber boat, garbage filter, and up to safety tools.
