144 Cats on Sabira Island Vaccinated for Rabies

The Seribu Islands Maritime, Agriculture and Food Security Sub-agency (KPKP) together with Let's Adopt Indonesia, injected rabies vaccinations on 144 stray cats against rabies on Sabira Island, Harapan Island Urban Village, North Seribu Islands.

Hope it can continue to be sustainable and implemented on other residential islands

"Sabira Island is also a tourist destination, so we feel it is necessary to vaccinate to ensure the health of animals and humans, including tourists," expressed Animal Husbandry and Health Section Head, Sandri Oktama, Friday (3/22).

At the same time, he added, the cat population was also being controlled on Sabira Island through sterilization.

"We also sterilized 124 cats, consisting of 45 males and 79 females," she explained.

To be vaccinated and sterilized, cats must be five months to 4.5 years old, in good health, not pregnant or breastfeeding, and weigh a minimum of two kilograms.

"We involved six veterinarians. Hopefully, through this effort, the Seribu Islands can continue to be free from rabies," she added.

The rabies vaccination and sterilization against cats received appreciation from Karang Taruna Youth Organization RW 03 Chairman, Harapan Island Urban Village, Gunawan.

"This is a must. Hope it can continue to be sustainable and implemented on other residential islands," he hoped.
