Jakarta Coastal Residents Urged to Be Alert Tidal Waves

The Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) calls on residents who live in coastal areas to be alert to floods or tidal waves from April 25 to 29, 2024.

Maximum peak tide is from 9 PM to 11 PM

Jakarta BPBD Head, Isnawa Adji said the BMKG's Tanjung Priok Maritime Class I Meteorological Station regarding Coastal Flood Early Warning informed that the phenomenon of maximum sea water tides coinciding with the Full Moon phase has the potential to increase the maximum sea water height in the form of coastal floods or tidal waves in the northern coastal area of Jakarta.

"Maximum peak tide is from 9 PM to 11 PM," he expressed, Wednesday (4/24).

According to him, residents living in the northern coastal areas of Jakarta such as Kamal Muara, Kapuk Muara, Penjaringan, Pluit, Ancol, Kamal, Marunda, Cilincing, and Kalibaru were urged to anticipate the impact of maximum tides of sea water which have the potential to cause coastal flooding.

He added the public can monitor the latest information regarding sea waves on the page bpbd.jakarta.go.id/gelombanglaut.

"If you encounter an emergency that needs help, immediately call the Jakarta Siaga 112 Call Center," he said.
