BPBD: Be Aware of Tidal Wave in North Jakarta

Jakarta Regional Disaster Handling Agency (BPBD) release a warning message related to tidal wave on July 3 to 9, 2024.

Jakarta BPBD Head, Isnawa Adji, said a number of coastal areas in Indonesia will experience the potential for tidal flooding during the period from July 3 to 13 as mentioned by Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

"Tidal wave is caused by the phenomenon of maximum sea tides coinciding with the new moon phase on July 6, 2024 which has the potential to increase the maximum sea tide height in the form of coastal flooding or tidal flooding on the north coast of Jakarta in the period from July 3 to 9," Isnawa said, Thursday (7/4).

Jakarta Coastal Residents Urged to Be Alert Tidal Waves

The potential for tidal waves to impact community activities around ports and coasts, including loading and unloading, coastal residential areas, salt ponds and inland fisheries.

"Residents who live on the north coast of Jakarta are advised to be alert and anticipate the impact of maximum tides in the form of tidal waves," he added.

Isnawa continued residents of the North coast of Jakarta can monitor the latest information regarding sea waves on the website, bpbd.jakarta.go.id/gelombanglaut.
