Jakartans! National QRIS Week 2024 from August 12 to 18

Bank Indonesia (BI) is again implementing one of its strategic programs, the National QRIS Week 2024 (PQN) which falls from August 12 to 18, 2024.

This program seeks to encourage the formation of a stronger digital payment ecosystem

Coinciding with the 79th Indonesian Independence Day, the PQN 2024 series will present various unique and interesting activities, such as interactive education and talk shows, QRIS UMKM exhibitions, interactive quizzes on social media, digital urban tourism attractions, special performances of regional dances and strengthening digitalization in social assistance programs. Information related to the PQN 2024 series of activities can be accessed on Instagram @bank_indonesia_jakarta.

Jakarta's Bank Indonesia Representative Office Head, Arlyana Abubakar said the utilization of technology infrastructure and optimization of Jakarta's digital human resources are the keys to success in driving the acceleration of digitalization in potential sectors including food and beverage accommodation, tourist destinations, and transportation.

City - BI Accelerates Digital Economic and Financial Investment

According to him, it aims to accelerate Jakarta to achieve its vision of becoming a highly competitive global city as a center for trade, service, and financial activities, as well as national and international business activities.

"This program seeks to encourage the formation of a stronger digital payment ecosystem and increase digital literacy in society," he expressed, Tuesday (8/13).

He explained that QRIS has become a game changer in encouraging changes in people's behavior in using non-cash payment instruments. It is noted that the volume of QRIS transactions in Jakarta reached 796.9 million (growing 173 percent yoy) until June 2024.

He assessed the performance was supported by QRIS business actors who reached 5.4 million and were spread throughout Jakarta. Moreover, QRIS users also reached 5.81 million. The inclusiveness of non-cash payment systems, especially QRIS, is spread across several business types.

"The share of QRIS transaction volume in Jakarta is already relatively large, almost 34 percent nationally. However, various efforts need to be continuously made to encourage the use of QRIS in several other sectors," he added.

He went on to say that Bank Indonesia is committed to continuously expanding digital payment acceptance including QRIS in the future to smoothen Jakarta's vision as a global city.

Bank Indonesia is trying to make this happen by increasing new users and QRIS transaction volume by optimizing user experience and deepening the community's digital literacy. Aside that, synergy and collaboration with all related stakeholders will be maintained to ensure the sustainability of QRIS use in the long term in Jakarta.

"The PQN 2024 series aims to encourage QRIS to be optimal in other potential sectors. This effort is achieved through program innovation by pushing the use of QRIS in urban tourism and Jakarta transportation, such as Pandora Box attraction, which is currently taking place at LRT Jakarta Station on Pegangsaan Dua route to Velodrome LRT Station," he explained.

LRT Jakarta President Director, Hendri Saputra gave his support to the program as a form of commitment to keep innovating by expanding the digital ecosystem in the Jakarta transportation sector.

He added some follow-up to the commitment was actualized through the provision of QRIS in LRT Jakarta application, EDC machines, and ticket vending machines at each station.

“Ultimately, this effort will facilitate passengers to choose non-cash payment options that are efficient, inclusive, and sustainable,” he closed.
