Farms in Rorotan Lack of Water Supply

Farmers in Rorotan Urban Village, Cilincing, North Jakarta complained about the lack of irrigation water supply to their farms. Especially in dry season, their farms often hit by drought.

As information, the farm of 450 hectares only rely on the water supply from Ujung Menteng conduit that often erratic

"We will increase the water debit to solve that problem. We are doing technical study to adds the water supply for farmers through waterways," told North Jakarta Marine, Farm, and Food Security (KPKP) Sub-Department Head, Una Rusmana, Saturday (5/16).

According to Rusmana, her side will coordinate with Water Management Sub-Department to create waterways and flow water from Cakung Barat River to irrigate farms in Rorotan.

Rusmana added, the farmers in Rorotan divide growing season in their farms so they can optimize the water supply.

"Because the water is limited, the farmers only plant in a part of their farms and plant in other part for the next growing season," told Rusmana.

The technique, Rusmana continued, also have a risk because the difference of growing season could invite pests such as rats.
