The Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Parekraf) is holding the independent music festival Jakarta Indie Sound Clash 2024 at Live House M Blok Space, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, on Friday, November 8, 2024 from 4 PM to 9.30 PM.

Music is a strategic subsector in the development of the creative economy in Jakarta

There will be performances from 10 indie band finalists who have participated in live auditions and coaching clinics from mentors, including two famous musicians, Endah N Rhesa and The Upstairs. Despite they have different genres, these two musicians represent indie musicians whose work cannot be underestimated.

Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Agency Head, Andhika Permata said this event is a place for musicians to showcase their work and compete, as well as fulfill the needs and satisfaction of indie music fans.

According to him, freedom of expression in lyrics that represent social realities in society is the lifeblood of indie music. The Indie music atmosphere is increasingly filling the colors of the music industry in Indonesia from year to year. In addition, lyrics that are in tune with everyday life make indie music quickly accepted by music lovers.

"This is not a short process, where for decades indie musicians have introduced their original works in Indonesia amidst the onslaught of various foreign music genres that dominate," he expressed, Friday (11/8).

He explained indie communities were starting to grow in big cities, working independently, from production to promotion. He assessed, quite a few big music labels recruit indie musicians who have already succeeded in gaining popularity in the hearts of the public, they consistently work freely without being tied down, moving organically by providing educational benefits to the public through the lyrics they create.

"Music is a strategic subsector in the development of the creative economy in Jakarta. Jakarta as a big city with heterogeneous public interest in various music genres, is the right place for the development of the music industry," he explained.

He added music events were starting to become active again to meet the public's demand for entertainment, thus having an impact on the economic cycle, providing positive benefits for the sustainability and support for the development of musicians' work.

"Therefore, the Jakarta Government is aware that to grow a big music industry requires strong synergy efforts between the government, media, musicians and the community," he added.

He added it will continue to be the foreground for everyone to know, enjoy and appreciate indie music works. With the hope that indie music can continue to grow and develop, coloring the music industry in Jakarta.

He added the Jakarta Government gave its highest appreciation to creative economy players in the music subsector, including indie musicians who are one of the driving forces in increasing the creative economy in Jakarta.

"By doing so, Indie musicians can create creativity and express their work optimally so that it becomes a leading potential in the creative music industry," he added.

As for the information, the competition is open to the public, registration is open from October 21 to 31, 2024. Further, participants are curated into 10 finalists to take part in a live audition and coaching clinic from the mentors.

Radio is one of the media that has made the work of indie musicians popular and accepted by the public as it is today, therefore the Jakarta Province Tourism and Creative Economy Office collaborated with Radio 98.7 GenFM in the curation and judging process for finalists.

The winners will be determined after they perform their final performance on Final Day on November 8, 2024 at M Bloc Live House.
