Jakarta Environmental Agency Head, Asep Kuswanto, said in addition to complying with the Instruction of the Governor of the Special Capital Region of Jakarta No 14/2021 which mandates the action of turning off lights in order to socialize energy saving actions and reduce carbon emissions 4 (four) times per year, this action is part of a series of activities for the 2024 National Love for Flora and Fauna.

Asep added the action of turning off the lights is expected to reduce electricity consumption and carbon emissions, as well as provide a positive impact on the environment. This activity also aims to invite the public to be more concerned about the use of efficient and environmentally friendly energy.
"We can contribute to preserve the environment and reduce climate change impact by taking this simple action," he added.
The following are the locations of the blackouts;
a. All Jakarta Provincial Government building (except hospital, community health center, clinic, and so on.
b. Protocol and Artery roads
c. Jakarta symbols (City Hall Building; National Monument and its fountain; Arjuna Wiwaha Statue and its fountain; Hotel Indonesia roundabout and its fountain, Pemuda Statue and its fountain; Pahlawan Statue; and Jenderal Sudirman Statue)
d. Protocol and Artery roads in five administration areas;
1) Central Jakarta: Jalan Sudirman (Dukuh Atas up to Sampoerna Strategic Building), and Jalan MH Thamrin; around Jalan Medan Merdeka (except Medan Merdeka Utara in front of State Palace), Jalan Gerbang Pemuda-Jalan Asia Afrika, City Hall yard, Central Jakarta Mayor.
2) North Jakarta: Jalan Yos Sudarso, North Jakarta Mayor Office, and Perintis Kemerdekaan
3) East Jakarta: Jalan Dr Sumarno, Jalan Perintis Kemerdekaan, and East Jakarta Mayor.
4) West Jakarta: Jalan Daan Mogot and Jalan Kembangan Raya (in front of West Jakarta Mayor Office), and West Jakarta Mayor Office.
5) South Jakarta: Jalan Prapanca Raya, Jalan Gerbang Pemuda-Jalan Asia Afrika, Jalan Sudirman (Sampoerna Strategic Building-Pemuda Statue), and Jalan Rasuna Said.
e. Several private buildings, commercial buildings, shopping centers, restaurants, hotels and apartments.
