Facing Extreme Weather in Jakarta, BPBD Strengthens Mitigation Steps

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency predicted The La Nina phenomenon and cold air from Siberia have the potential to increase rainfall by up to 20 percent and trigger strong winds in the Jabodetabek area.

As the part of mitigation, Jakarta Regional Disaster Handling Agency keeps prepare to face the situation by strengthening disaster handling efforts. The preparedness is aimed to protect residents and minimize loss because of disaster.

Jakarta BPBD Implement Head, Isnawa Adji said his side has activated Disaster Post that operates 24 hours in all Mayor and Regent Offices.

Moreover, 267 personnel are deployed to every urban village to cooperate with RT, RW and LMK to make sure the disaster handling runs fast and effective.

"We're also focusing on strong wind. Tree monitoring and pruning will be run together with City Park and Forestry Agency," he said, Friday (12/6).

Jakarta BPBD tightens cooperation with PPSU, FKDM, LMK, RT/RW and Tagana to make sure the preparedness of every area in facing extreme weather. Jakarta BPBD also prepares buffer stock in form of food and clothing for emergency situation.

"Rubber boats, lifebuoy, and others have been distributed to urban village and sub-district that prone to flood," he stated.
