Seribu Islands Acting Regent, Muhammad Fadjar Churniawan and his staff, inspected the flooded settlements due to tidal flood or rob on Panggang Island, Panggang Island Urban Village and Kelapa Island, Kelapa Island Sub-district, North Seribu Islands.

We have mapped it comprehensively

According to him, this flood, which flooded residential areas up to 30 centimeters, is a phenomenon that occurred every 4-5 years. It is triggered by the supermoon phenomenon which caused sea levels to rise higher than usual.

"We have mapped it comprehensively. It can run until December 20th," he expressed.

Tidal Flood in Marunda and Pluit Starts to Recede

He explained it had been happening since Friday (12/13) where the water level had been rising and falling every day and the worst was today when the water level reached around 30 centimeters.

As a result, dozens of houses were flooded on Panggang Island, precisely in RW 01, 02 and 03, Panggang Island Urban Village and also dozens of houses in RT 03/04, Kelapa Island Urban Village.

Nevertheless, he ensured that the supply and stock of people's basic necessities were still safe. If needed, he would coordinate with Perumda Pasar Jaya and PT Tjipinang Food Station to prepare logistical supplies for basic necessities.

Even, he also had provided packaged rice meals assistance for affected residents. If it was unoptimal, his party would coordinate with the Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD).

He also had contacted the Water Resources (SDA) Sub-agency to go to the location and map the need for infrastructure improvements in the area around the flooded settlements.

"We also contact the Health Sub-agency to set up a healthcare post after the flood recedes," he asserted.

Kelapa Island Urban Village Head, Muslim admitted as many as 250 packages rice meals had been distributed to affected residents. Then there was also assistance in the form of rice and oil, 10 packages of children's diaper blankets and toiletries.

"We keep monitoring and will coordinate with the district for further action," he added.

The action above received appreciation from Seribu Islands Public Figure, Rahman. He assessed, this tidal flood was an annual condition and should be prevented by dams or island ring roads.

"Hopefully, in the future, there will be construction of a ring road or dam on Panggang Island to fortify the island," he hoped.
