LH Agency Prompts Residents to Become Active Customers of Waste Bank

The Jakarta Environmental Agency (LH) socializes cleaning services to chairs of Waste Management Divisions of Neighborhood Units (BPS RW) and Waste Bank administrators throughout Jakarta.

If one family member becomes a customer, the whole family will be free from the obligation to pay cleaning fees

Residents are encouraged to become active customers of the waste bank so they can get many benefits, one of which is exemption from cleaning fees.

This socialization is packaged in the form of a roadshow that will take place in five administrative city areas and Seribu Islands Regency from December 17 to 24, 2024.

It also includes the inauguration and confirmation of the Waste Bank in Jakarta as a member of the Indonesian Waste Bank Association (ASOBSI) which aims to ensure the readiness of residents to support the policy of exempting cleaning fees by becoming active customers of the waste bank.

Jakarta LH Agency Head, Asep Kuswanto explained the e-Bank Sampah Jakarta platform was introduced in the socialization. Through this system, all transactions, waste prices, and the location of the main waste bank and units could be monitored easily.

"This system is integrated, thus it can increase transparency and effectiveness of waste bank management. Residents who actively sort and save waste will get direct benefits in the form of exemption from cleaning fees," he expressed, Thursday (12/19).

This socialization also educates residents about the obligation to become customers of a waste bank. Residents were urged to save waste at least four times a month in a registered waste bank.

"If one family member becomes a customer, the whole family will be free from the obligation to pay cleaning fees," he explained.

He emphasized the importance of the active role of residents in supporting waste management through waste banks. Residents were also urged to soon register as waste bank customers to be free from cleaning fees.

"By becoming an active customer and sorting waste at the source, it will help protect the environment and gain economic benefits," he added.

He furthered this roadshow is a direct approach to BPS RW chairs and waste bank administrators to ensure that all information regarding this new system can be well understood down to the community level.

Aside that, the inauguration of Waste Bank in Jakarta as a member of ASOBSI is expected to improve the quality of waste management and strengthen the waste bank network at the national level.

"Our target is not only to ensure that residents understand this policy, but also to encourage the formation of new waste banks in each RW. We're targeting 3,020 new waste banks, reactivating 1,980 previously inactive waste banks, and optimizing 1,431 units that are already running," he explained.

He added the e-Bank Sampah platform also functions as a digital solution to facilitate residents to actively participate in waste reduction. Sorting waste and saving in a waste bank could reduce the burden on landfills while creating economic value from the processed waste.

LH Agency was optimistic that with this socialization, residents would be better prepared to implement the cleanliness levy policy.

"Jakarta is ready to implement this policy with a mature and integrated system. Collaboration between the government, waste bank managers and the community is the key to success in realizing a waste-free Jakarta," he added.

He also explained the use of the Jakclean application, a collaboration platform between DLH and Bank DKI to facilitate for Cleaning Service Retribution Obligors (WR) to fulfill their obligations.

"We build an integrated system to facilitate residents," he said.
