Acting Jakarta Governor Teguh Gets His Praise for Presenting Six Former Jakarta Governors

A rare moment happened at Jakarta City Hall, Tuesday (12/31) afternoon, just before the New Year celebration.

Many figures came to the City Hall for the Bentang Harapan JakASA event. Those figures were former of Jakarta Governors.

There were six former governors namely Sutiyoso (1997-2007), Fauzi Bowo (2007-2012), Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (2014-206), Sonny Sumarsono (Acting Governor in 2016-2017), Djarot Saiful Hidayat (2017) and Anies Rasyid Baswedan (2017-2022). Only Joko Widodo and Heru Budi Hartono were unable to present.

There were also the contestants of Jakarta Regional Head Election 2024. The elected Jakarta Governor-Vice Governor Pramono Anung and Rano Karno came together. While the other candidates were represented by Suswono and Kun Wardhana. Others were Religion Minister Nasaruddin Umar and Village Deputy Minister who is also the former Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria.

"Precisely on June 22, 2027, we will soon welcome the five centuries of Jakarta. We want to make Jakarta people happy. All of us, together with the former governors and community leaders, can be present here then write our hopes for Jakarta's future. I am glad of it," Teguh said while opening the event.

Teguh received praise because of his idea gathering many figures in the event. The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN)'s local political expert, Yogi Setya Permana, said Teguh has successfully demonstrated his expertise in leading Jakarta during transition period.

"The acting regional head has always been in the spotlight in the last one to two years due to many controversial stories related to neutrality in the election contest. It is impossible to gather the figures if Acting Governor Teguh failed to maintain his integrity in the last regional election. The figures were once at odds and contested in the electoral arena. The effort must be appreciated much," Yogi said, as quoted from Jakarta Provincial Government's press release, Friday (1/3).

Meanwhile, Executive Director of Trias Politica Strategis, Agung Baskoro, admitted it is not ease to gather those political figures, but Teguh successfully did it.

"The event must be appreciated since it brought mission to unite elite and public after competing in regional head election," he said.

He also appreciated the implementation of Bentang Harapan JakASA which is important for Jakarta ahead of its 500th anniversary.

"The event gain residents' public awareness about Jakarta in the past, present and future," he added.

Moreover, when contacted separately, young Betawi artist Muhammad Amrullah, or known as Kojek Rap, also deliver his praise for Teguh.

"Jakarta ahead of its 500th anniversary felt calm with the Bentang Harapan event. Teguh as the acting governor gathered with former governors and deputy governors, as well as regional head election participants at City Hall. I think this is what we need that every Jakarta leaders has their own good for our future," he stated.

He also delivered his hope for Jakarta.

"There were previous leaders' contribution in the 500th anniversary of Jakarta. This can be an example for Jakarta residents. Let's Jakarta be peacefully since the city belongs to everyone. Many have found their dreams and love in Jakarta. So it is our time to love the city completely together," he stated.
