Acting Governor Teguh Launches Ragunan Zoo's New Logo and Mascot

Acting Jakarta Governor, Teguh Setyabudi officially launched new Ragunan Zoo's logo and mascot, Wednesday (1/8).

The launching was attended by Jakarta Regional Secretary, Marullah Matali; Acting PKK Chairwoman, Ika Oktaviana; South Jakarta Mayor, Munjirin; Chairman of the Indonesian Zoo Association (PKBSI), Rahmatsyah and Head of Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA) Marwan Sofa.

During his speech, Teguh said that Ragunan Zoo is part of history, education and conservation of Indonesian biodiversity as recreational place.

"The new logo and mascot of Ragunan Zoo is a strategic step to acknowledge fresh and inspirative Ragunan Zoo," he said, Wednesday (1/8).

According to him, the zoo has 127 hectare of land and as one of the widest zoo in the world.

Teguh stated that Ragunan Zoo's identity as a conservation institution and leading educational recreation destination is strengthened through its brahminy kite mascot. It encourages residents to protect endangered animals.

"The brahminy kite has its strong characteristic and a rare species that is often found in Seribu Island. It is our mascot of Jakarta city," he stated.

Teguh hopes that the brahminy kite will become a symbol of tenacity, resilience, leadership, dynamism and the characteristics of Jakarta people.

He appreciated the Ragunan Zoo's animal conservation, and congratulated the birth of a male giraffe on December 2, 2024, named Rajaka or Ragunan Jakarta.

"Hopefully it is our new life and commitment celebration momentum to care flora and fauna. Also Ragunan Zoo Management will continue to collaborate with various parties in the future," Teguh explained.

Meanwhile, Jakarta City Park and Forestry Agency Head, Bayu Megantara said Ragunan Zoo previously took place in Cikini, or precisely at Taman Ismail Marzuki land.

The zoo owned by Raden Saleh then was officially moved to Ragunan, Pasar Minggu on June 22, 1964.

"Now we have new logo since 1981," he stated.
