BPBD Continues to Monitor Tidal Floods in Muara Angke

The Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) remains on alert and keeps monitoring the developments of flooding due to tidal wave in Muara Angke, Pluit, Penjaringan, North Jakarta.

The water rose in the morning and afternoon or evening and recedes again

Jakarta BPBD's North Jakarta Task Force Head, Aries Trisna Putra explained the flood in Muara Angke has been occuring since Thursday (1/9) in several RTs/RW 22, Pluit Urban Village. Fortunately, it does not interfere with the activities of residents.

"The water rose in the morning and afternoon or evening and recedes again," he expressed, Tuesday (1/14).

He explained the phenomenon of flooding entering residential areas usually occurs starting at around 6 AM. The water level continued to rise until it peaked at around 60 centimeters at its deepest point near midday.

Then the water would gradually recede during the day and usually completely disappear in the evening. For almost a week now, the tidal phenomenon receded the fastest at around 4 PM and repeated the next day.

He asserted five personnel were on standby at the location and monitored the development of the flood, including rubber boats to help residents who want to move in and out of residential across flooded areas.

He furthered that the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecast, the rise in sea level that triggers tidal floods conditions will still occur until January 17.

Predictably, the height of the tidal flood in residential areas would not increase significantly if it was not accompanied by heavy rain for a long period of time.

Anticipating the height of the flood, since last December, he has been coordinating with the army, police, and Satpol PP to take disaster response steps. His party also prepared an evacuation scheme as the worst option.

"Thus far, the flood height is around 60 centimeters and residents are still doing their activities as usual," he asserted.

North Jakarta Social Sub-agency Head, Rizqon Hermawan admitted personnel were on standby to prepare logistical and natural assistance for residents if needed. But, since the tidal flood occurred again last Thursday, his party had yet to receive any requests for assistance for residents affected by the tidal flood in Muara Angke.

"Principally, we're ready to distribute aid if needed. If there is a request, we will immediately follow up," he stated.
