Education Agency Prepares Strategic Steps to Prevent Sexual Abuse in School

Acting Jakarta Education Agency Head, Sarjoko explained that the first step is implementing policies on prevention and handling of violence in all schools based on the Governor Regulation No 86/2019 about Prevention and Handling of Violence against Student in Educational Units. Then the child-friendly school program to be also optimized in all educational units.

"Prioritizing violence prevention through character education, teacher training, as well as parent and community involvement in creating an inclusive and violence-free school culture are the main focus of this program," he said, Thursday (1/16).

The agency also strengthens the supervising and reporting in schools. It is based on the direction in the Circular Letter of Education Agency Head No e-0061/SE/2024 that emphasizes the formation of Violence Prevention and Handling Team.

"The school committees, education supervisors and authorities will be involved to monitor potential of violence. In order to ensure quick and safe handling, a violence reporting hotline will be provided too," he added.

The next step, he continued, training for teachers and education personnel will be held to understand non-violent approaches in applying discipline for students.

"As the fifth step, the agency to hold anti-violence campaigns by cooperating with NGOs, youth organizations and educational communities. Supporting the anti-violence culture in schools can be realized by adding more seminars that instill the values of tolerance and empathy," he explained.

According to him, these strategic steps are provided as a response to many similar cases previously.

"Hopefully the policy will ensure school is a safe place for students, teachers and all stakeholders. Education Agency commits to realize violence-free school environmental," he stated.
