He had offered them the option of relocating to vertical housing in the government-owned apartments of Jakarta.

"Coincidentally, I used to live across the street, in Tebet. So I know this place. As for the flooding, it's not surprising me," he expressed, Monday (3/3).

Based on the field review, the number of flood refugees in Kampung Melayu is recorded at around 1,000 people. Some affected people had taken refuge in SDN 01/02 Kampung Melayu, while others have chosen to stay in their homes.

"This situation complicates the logistics distribution process due to the residents' scattered locations," he explained.

He offered a solution to move to a low-cost apartment for the residents of Kampung Melayu, especially for housewives.

"I just told them, do we want to stay in this condition? Let's move to the apartment," he added.

Currently, the Jakarta Government has apartments in several locations that can be used as housing for people affected by floods. Among them is the apartment in Jagakarsa, which has three towers for residents affected by the overflow of the Ciliwung River.

He furthered the offered apartments have varying sizes with guaranteed building quality. Even, the quality standards of the apartments managed by the Jakarta Government are claimed to be on par with those in Singapore.

He admitted that there were quite a few citizens who view vertical housing as an alternative place to live. Learning from Singapore, their area could be orderly, well-organized, neat, and free from flooding with the concept of building vertical houses as a housing solution.

"Almost all of our apartment buildings have two bedrooms. It's already standard, and I even see that it's similar to those in Singapore," he stated.
