As an effort to prevent hydro meteorological disasters in Jakarta area, Weather Modification Operation (OMC) is resumed. This third OMC stage prepared 20 tons of seeding materials for 10 days of operation and is planned to take 25 flight sorties.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) stated rain cloud growth potential on March 11, 2025 was significant with relative humidity (RH) in the 3,000 foot layer still high.

"Even rain is predicted to occur in the West area of Java, especially during the day and night. But the intensity goes lower in the afternoon. Daily rainfall in the next four days remain high," said Budi Harsoyo, Acting BMKG Director of Weather Modification Governance, Tuesday (3/11).

Budi added that OMC post in Jakarta will operate from morning to evening. Weather modification operation is also held by BNPB through the post at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base and West Java Provincial BPBD through the post at the Husein Sastranegara Air Force Base.

"This activity also collaborates with the Indonesian National Air Force and PT Rekayasa Atmosphere Indonesia (RAI)," he added.

Jakarta BPBD's Sub-Group Head of Logistic and Equipment, who is also the OMC 2025 spokesman, Michael Sitanggang, explained all parties involved are working to reduce extreme rainfall in Jakarta and its surroundings during the operation period.

According to him, today's operational mission took three sorties with a flight duration of 6 hours 30 minutes by using 2.4 tons of NaCl seeding material. Today's first sortie seeding targeted the Northwest area, Sunda Strait, and Seribu Island. Then the second and third sortie targeted the Java Sea area.

"We continue to cooperate with various parties to reach effective result in reducing extreme rain Jakarta and its surroundings. We also cooperate with BNPB and West Java BPBD who also run the operation," he stated.
