Latest Weather Modification Operation Carried Out in Two Flight Sorties

Jakarta Provincial Government is currently conducting the third phase of Weather Modification Operation (OMC) as an effort to mitigate hydrometeorological disasters. The third phase of OMC is scheduled for 10 days, from March 11 to 20, 2025.

"The seeding is focused on several areas,"

Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Logistics and Equipment Sub-Group Head and spokesperson for the Jakarta OMC 2025, Michael Sitanggang stated that during the operation period, his side will focus on reducing the intensity of extreme rainfall in Jakarta and surrounding areas.

He explained that the recent operation was carried out in two flight sorties, totaling 4 hours and 8 minutes of flight time, using 1.6 tons of NaCl seed material.

"The seeding is focused on several areas. First sortie is targeted the Northwest region, Sunda Strait, and Thousand Islands. The second sortie in the northern waters of Jakarta and Java Sea," he informed, on Wednesday (3/12).

The OMC operation was carried out together with Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) and PT Rekayasa Atmosphere Indonesia (RAI).

The recent OMC, he added, had met its target, with no recorded hydrometeorological disasters in Jakarta area.

"Today, there have been no hydrometeorological disasters in Jakarta," he expressed.

Meanwhile, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that atmospheric dynamics analysis generally shows that light rain is expected in Jakarta area during the afternoon and late afternoon.

"According to the daily forecast, light rain is expected. However, there is a potential for moderate rainfall over the next four days, starting tomorrow," said Budi Harsoyo, the Acting Director of BMKG's Weather Modification Management.
