Jakarta City Council Commission E Member, Farah Savira expressed her support for the plan of Jakarta's Deputy Governor, Rano Karno, who wants to make Jakarta a film city.
Jakarta is outstanding in terms of film production
She assessed that Jakarta has been the center of production for various films in Indonesia.
"Jakarta is outstanding in terms of film production, perhaps almost 100 percent of Indonesian films are produced here," she expressed, Tuesday (4/14).
Jakarta to be Designed as a Film CityShe hoped that Jakarta could become more widely recognized through film media. Movies could be an effective promotional tool to introduce and advance the city.
"If we think of James Bond, we immediately think of London. The same goes for Joko Anwar's films in Pangalengan or Laskar Pelangi, which have made Bangka Belitung widely known," she explained.
She added the success of a film often has a positive impact on the tourism sector. Hopefully, many corners of Jakarta could become new icons through film works supported by the Jakarta Government.
"I fully support this. In the future, I hope we can select films that have the potential to become a new icon for Jakarta," she explained.
Previously, Jakarta Deputy Governor, Rano Karno said that plans to facilitate the Jakarta Film Festival, an international-scale film festival expected to be one of the steps to make Jakarta a global city.
He also invited the public to support the works of Indonesian filmmakers by watching local films in cinemas. He emphasized, the Jakarta Government would continuously support the development of the national film industry.
"We will design Jakarta to be a film city," he closed.
