Sweeping During Ramadhan, Mass Organizations' License will Be Revoked

Jakarta Board of Nation Unity and Politics (Bakesbangpol) threatened to revoke the registration certificate (SKT) of mass organizations if they recklessly conduct a sweeping in the entertainment venues during Ramadhan.

They (mass organizations) do not have the authority to do sweeping, only the state apparatus that can do it with a specific purpose

“They (mass organizations) do not have the authority to do sweeping, only the state apparatus that can do it with a specific purpose,” asserted Chief of Jakarta Board of Nation Unity and Politics, Ratiyono, Thursday (6/18).

According to Ratiyono, every mass organization must comply with the Act No.17/2013 on Mass Organization .In accordance with the act, the mass organization's registration certificate would be revoked if they did sweeping. But if it is form of criminal law, it will be followed up by the authorities.

“Those who do sweeping during Ramadan will be sanctioned," he stressed.

Former Head of Jakarta Sports and Youth Department acknowledged the sweeping ban was already instructed to Chief of National Police, Comr. Gen. Badrodin Haiti towards mass organizations all over Indonesia and it must be obeyed without any exception. “That means if Mr. Haiti says that the sweeping is banned, they must obey his order,” he expressed.

He also admitted had communicated with Islamic organization and youth organization leaders who have the potential to conduct sweeping. It was done through persuasive approach and warn them to obey and respect the rule. “ We already done communication with the mass organization regarding sweeping ban during Ramadan,” he told.

He added in Jakarta, there are at least 300 mass organizations have the certificate, namely Islamic organization, youth organization and non-governmental organization (NGOs).
