Legislator Apresiasi Pemprov DKI Rekrut Seribu Petugas Damkar

Distribution of Fire Extinguishers in Jakarta will Become an Effective Mitigation Step

The Jakarta Government's plan to recruit 1,000 new firefighters has received appreciation from a Member of Jakarta City Council Commission A, William Aditya Sarana.

We appreciate the plan to recruit 1,000 new firefighters to protect Jakarta

He also supports the Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung's policy, who issued Governor's Instruction Number 5/2025 on the Community's Fire Extinguisher Movement (Gempar), to mitigate fires in densely populated areas.

"We appreciate the plan to recruit 1,000 new firefighters to protect Jakarta. The distribution of Portable Fire Extinguishers (APAR) to densely populated areas is also expected to be an effective mitigation step," he explained, Wednesday (5/14).

Each RT Targeted to Have Two Fire Extinguishers for Fire Prevention

Nevertheless, he urged the Jakarta Government to also pay attention to the availability of fire-fighting infrastructure, such as the construction of fire stations in every urban village.

"Jakarta still needs more fire stations. Out of a total of 267 urban villages, only 170 have active fire stations. There are still many areas that are not optimally protected in case of a fire," he asserted.

He assessed, fires still pose a serious threat to the residents of Jakarta, especially in densely populated areas and informal settlements. Therefore, there needs to be a comprehensive approach.

"The step of providing portable fire extinguishers to every neighborhood unit is indeed good, and the recruitment of 1,000 firefighters deserves appreciation, but we mustn't forget the infrastructure aspect. Fire stations should be built evenly across all urban villages so that Jakarta's fire management system can be truly strong from upstream to downstream," he closed.
