Jakarta Fishermen Urged to Use Technology for Maximum Fish Catch Results

Jakarta City Council Vice Chairman, Basri Baco, encourages fishermen in Jakarta to utilize technology for improving their fish catch. One of the recommended technologies is the Global Positioning System (GPS), similar to what has already been used by fishermen in West Java.

They can know where the fish are

He conveyed the statement during the Jakarta Regional Government Work Plan (RKPD) 2026 meeting on Thursday (5/15). He shared that he learned about the use of GPS by fishermen in West Java while having a direct dialogue with them during a discussion about the sea fence polemic some time ago.

"There is one thing they conveyed and is already possessed by the fishermen of West Java, it turns out they have GPS," he expressed, at City Council building, Friday (5/16).

With GPS, fishermen in West Java could determine the location of fish movements. In fact, they often take advantage of the waters of Jakarta to catch fish.

"They can know where the fish are. Our fishermen in Jakarta do not have it yet," he explained.

Therefore, he urged the Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture and Food Security Agency (KPKP) to help facilitate Jakarta fishermen with similar technology. This aims to optimize their catch and increase their income.

He emphasized the importance of the local government's role in improving the welfare of its residents, especially the fishermen affected by policies such as the construction of sea fences.
