Good News! Five Jakarta Museums Open Until Night Every Weekend

The Jakarta government officially announced the extension of operating hours for five museums every weekend. They will be open every Saturday and Sunday from 9 AM to 8 PM.

People can now enjoy a more intimate and captivating museum atmosphere

Those five museums are Sejarah Jakarta Museum, Seni Rupa dan Keramik Museum, Wayang Museum, Bahari Museum, and Betawi Museum at Setu Babakan.

Jakarta Culture Agency Head, Mochamad Miftahulloh Tamary said this policy was adopted after observing the high enthusiasm of the community during the trial run from May 10 to 11, 2025. Thousands of visitors attended during the two-day trial, demonstrating a strong interest in local history and culture.

Five Museums Visitors Soaring as Night Operation Trialed

According to him, the extension of operational hours for five museums on weekends is a strategic step to bring the community closer to Jakarta's cultural heritage.

"The success of the trial from May 10 to 11 has proven that the community welcomes quality educational and recreational spaces. Hope the community will become more active in visiting museums and make them a part of an urban lifestyle that is aware of culture and history," he expressed, Sunday (5/18).

According to him, the surge in the number of visitors is clear evidence that museums are not boring places but rather destinations that can be enjoyed by everyone, from families to communities. It is believed that museums can now serve as an educational yet enjoyable alternative for nighttime tourism.

"Visiting the museum and exploring at night offers a different atmosphere. The calmer ambiance and thematic lighting can provide an emotional and educational experience for visitors," he explained.

He added that the success during the trial period serves as a positive signal to continue this policy. Through various programs that will be held in the evenings moving forward, it is hoped to further encourage visitors, especially the younger generation, to become more involved in the preservation of culture and history.

"People can now enjoy a more intimate and captivating museum atmosphere. We want the museum to be a vibrant, inclusive public space that is relevant to the lives of Jakarta's residents today," he emphasized.
