Launching 498th Anniversary, Pramono Targets Jakarta to Become a Cultured Global City

Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung officially launched the Jakarta 498 Anniversary and Blok M revitalization with new name, Blok M Hub.

The launching held at Martha Christina Tiahahu Literacy Park, South Jakarta also marks the start of Jakarta Anniversary activities that reflect the new face of Jakarta as an inclusive and creative city.
"I am grateful and thank you for all of our presence today to witness the initial launch of the Jakarta 498th anniversary," Pramono said, Saturday (5/24).
Governor Pramono: Blok M to Become a Busy HubPramono said that Jakarta's 498th anniversary is not just an annual ceremony, but it is also a sign for Jakarta to continue move forward become a global city and a center for economy and culture.
Also through the launching of Blok M revitalization into Blok M Hub, Pramono is also committed to make Jakarta a friendly city to all, including people with disability.
Pramono added that Jakarta Provincial Government has constructed a 1.3 kilometer long disability-friendly sidewalk path connecting all areas in Blok M.
"We have prepared one new hub called Hub M Bloc Jakarta," he added.
It is hoped the area will be a new activity center since Jakarta Provincial Government has also launched new route of Transjabodetabek namely PIK 2-Blok M and Alam Sutera-Blok M.
Next, Jakarta Provincial Government will also provide two Transjabodetabek routes from Jakarta's surrounding areas to Blok M.
"Literacy Park is opened for 24 hours. Hopefully in the next one or two months we can construct Leuser Park, Ayodya, and Langsat Park into one park," Pramono continued.
Meanwhile, Jakarta's 498th Anniversary Committee Chairwoman, Suharini Eliawati explained Literacy Park will become the veranda of the ASEAN capital. That is why the Jakarta's anniversary launching held at the park.
Eli added that there will be 73 anniversary programs held up to June 30, 2025. The running events are Light Festival at Lapangan Banteng and puppet show at Wayang Museum.
"We will make a pilgrimage to Kalibata Cemetery Park approaching the peak event on June 22," Eli stated.
