Jakarta City Secretary, Marullah Matali explained the agency has run Bina Keluarga Lansia (BKL) program as the basic to create elderly school.
Pasukan Putih Troops, Expanding Reach of Residents' Health Services"BKL is a forum for community groups to improve the knowledge, skills, attitudes and behavior of families and the elderly and improve the quality of life," Marullah said, while giving a speech at the 29th National Elderly Day (HLUN) Commemoration at the Matahari RPTRA, Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (6/3).
Marullah said the elderly school offers fun and relevant learning to elderly needs. It includes materials on health, religion, social, culture and other life skills.
"There are 534 BKL groups with 10,267 members in Jakarta. Then 10 elderly schools with 2,006 people," he said.
He added that the program is hoped to achieve seven dimensions of resilient elderly people. Those are physical, emotional, social, intellectual, spiritual, professional and vocational. It is for the sake of elderly happiness and prosperity.
Meanwhile, Minister of Population and Family Development/Head of BKKBN RI, Wihaji, stated the commemoration of HLUN is a form of appreciation for the elderly. It also promotes an active and healthy lifestyle during the old age.
"It surely motivates the elderly to stay active by interacting with others and encouraging the elderly to be creative," he stated.
