Kelapa Gading District's Water Resource Unit Head, Jhoni Sariyanto Situmorang said the construction of the embankment is carried out as a follow-up to residents' aspirations due to the smell of water in the channel.
"It is suspected that this condition occurs due to waste being dumped into the channel," he said, Friday (6/20).

"The activity involves six Bluetaskforce personnel and one mini excavator," he explained.
According to him, the embankment construction was started on June 1 and is targeted to complete end of this month.
"Hopefully the embankment construction will avoid waste to be disposed into the channel and the environment will not be polluted," he added.
One of the local residents, Ahmad Guandi, thanked the Kelapa Gading Water Resource Unit for responding the resident's request.
"We suspect that this waste emerged due to land clearing by private companies around the Kelapa Gading area. If left unchecked, this waste will spread even further," he admitted.
