Jakarta City Council's Commission E Member, Farah Savira, said the plan of making a bylaw about Ondel-Ondel aims to strengthen Bylaw Number 4/2015 about the Preservation of Betawi Culture.

As the Betawi Cultural Preservation Bylaw is already 10 years old, she hopes that the formation of a regulation prohibiting the use of ondel-ondel for busking can align the Bylaw with the current development.

"We can see the challenges regarding how to protect ondel-ondel as a symbol of honor of Betawi culture," she said, Monday (6/30).

Furthermore, the Bylaw is also expected to regulate a special stage for ondel-ondel to perform in promoting Betawi culture.

"Sanctions will be imposed if there is any use Betawi cultural symbols or art for purposes other than promoting Betawi culture," she added.

As for information, Jakarta City Council Chairman, Khoirudin supports Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung for prohibiting the use of ondel-ondel for busking on the street.
