Giri Kencana Reservoir on Jalan Giri Kencana Revitalized

Giri Kencana Reservoir located on Jalan Giri Kencana, RW 03 and 06, Cilangkap Urban Gillage, Cipayung Sub-district, East Jakarta has begun to be revitalized.

East Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Sub-agency's Maintenance Section Head, Tengku Saugi Zikri said, the revitalization of Giri Kencana Reservoir began in early June.

"Currently, the progress of the work has only reached about 5.6 percent," he expressed, Thursday (7/3).

He explained the project included land dredging in the wet cross-section, constructing retaining walls using gabions or bronjong, and their various components.

"Third party will execute this project at a cost by Rp 56.1 billion from City Budget (APBD). It is targeted to be completed by December 15," he explained.

There would be dredging, increasing the current depth from three meters to an additional two meters. As a result, the reservoir deep would have 5 meters.

"We project that this reservoir can prevent floods that usually occur in the RW 02, 03, 04, and 06 areas of Cilangkap Urban Village," he explained.

He added, it would also have various facilities such as an information centre, meeting and storage rooms, toilets, a prayer hall, an sports zone, gazebos, an amphitheater, a playground and children's play facilities, as well as a bridge.

Giri Kencana Reservoir Revitalization Project Vice Manager, Bernard Saragih explained, the revitalization work at the 4.5-hectare reservoir was being accelerated to be completed following the set target.

"Currently, we're conducting land excavation or dredging and attaching retaining walls using stone gabions surrounding the reservoir area," he explained.

He added gabions were installed using a six-trap model to ensure stability and prevent landslides of the reservoir. The gabions currently installed amount to approximately 1,700 cubic meters, or along 150 meters out of a total of 800 meters.

He added, the reservoir would also have a jogging track area and a 900-meter-long running track with 2.5 meters wide.

"Greening will also be done with plants," he added.
