Pramono Instructs Regent to Fix Water Problems on Kelapa Island

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung visited Kelapa Island, Seribu Islands, Friday (7/4). He highlighted the urgent needs of the residents of Kelapa Island, including the availability of clean water for bathing.

They said it was water for bathing

"I asked the residents what the main problem was, and they said it was water for bathing. There is no problem with drinking water," He expressed.

According to him, this was due to a malfunction in the seawater treatment equipment to produce clean water.

Bapemperda and Governor Agree to Hold Regular Meetings

"Yet, this issue has been reported to the Regent of Seribu Islands for repair," he expressed.

Regarding the availability of drinking water, the supply had been well provided by PAM Jaya and the Water Resources Agency (SDA).

In Seribu Islands, the clean drinking water treatment system was built using Brackish Water Reverse Osmosis (BWRO) and Seawater Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) through distillation and filtration processes.

Brackish Water Reverse Osmosis (BWRO) is a desalination technology used to process brackish water into fresh water. Brackish water has a lower salinity compared to seawater but still contains more salts and minerals than natural fresh water.

Meanwhile, Seawater Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) is a technology used to convert seawater into safe freshwater for consumption and various activities.

During this visit, Governor Pramono also conducted several activities, such as planting mangroves, handing over grouper fish seeds to fishermen, inspecting the Nyiur Melambai Urban Community Park, BWRO service facilities, health services at the community health center, and P3KD health service vessel from the Health Agency.

"Seeing these facilities, actually, Alhamdulillah (thank God), they are quite good," he continued.

He explained, this ambulance boat serving residents in Seribu Islands has been operating since 2023. This boat has advanced facilities such as a minor operating room and sterilization room, and is ready to handle various emergency medical conditions, including infections and Covid-19.

"So, this boat is on standby here because indeed, Kelapa Island is full of people when it comes to health matters," he explained.

However, he emphasized the importance of adequate availability of doctors and nurses at this ambulance ship facility. He requested, adding medical personnel to serve the community in Seribu Islands become a priority.

He also highlighted the need for sea transportation and has instructed the Transportation Agency to push sea transportation facilities in Seribu Islands.

It was important, because of the higher the activity of the island community towards the mainland.

"Since all residents here have free access to everything on land, now many have come ashore afterward," he uttered.

As information, there are already 19 passenger service boat units operating daily in Seribu Islands.
