Jakarta Govt Supports Gus Dur Library Project in Ciganjur

The Jakarta Provincial Government fully supports the construction plan of Gus Dur Library in Ciganjur, South Jakarta.

"T he Jakarta Government will provide full support and assistance," 

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung conveyed this after meeting with Sinta Nuriyah Wahid at Jakarta City Hall, on Friday (7/11).

"For what she and her family wish to achieve, the Jakarta Government will provide full support and assistance," he asserted.

Support will cover aspects ranging from permits to curating the library or museum content. Pram has also direced relevant agencies to provide their full assistance.

According to him, Gus Dur holds a strong influence and legacy that continues to resonate today, which is why preparations for the library must be done properly.

"I have asked the related agencies to support this initiative. Gus Dur's strength lies in what I would call his 'magical presence', that is his power," he expressed.

He also added that he has a personal connection with Gus Dur including throughout his political journey.

Meanhwhile, Sinta Nuriyah Wahid explained that the establishment of Southeast Asian Islamic Studies Center with a modern library was Gus Dur's wish before he passed away. The library will feature digital facilities and the latest technology.

The idea stemmed from the people's desire to fee Gus Dur's presence more tangibly.

"This is a wish from the people, for Gus Dur to be present there. We want to present that in the form of a diorama, meaning Gus Dur himself will be the one telling the story," Sinta said.

She hopes that the library construction can begin soon and called for support from various stakeholders, including the Jakarta Provincial Government, to realize this vision.

"We won't be able to build it without everyone's help," Sinta emphasized.
