150 Stray Cats on Pramuka Island Sterilized

As many as 150 stray cats on Pramuka Island, Panggang Island Urban Village, Seribu Selatan Island were sterilized by Seribu Island Food Security, Marine and Agriculture Sub-agency together with Let's Adopt Indonesia (LAI).

The Sub-agency's Animal Health and Husbandry Section Head, Sandri Oktama said this is a routine agenda. The service sterilized 65 male and 85 female stray cats.

"The service aims to handle the stray cat population," he said, Friday (7/11).

He explained that animals to be sterilized must be healthy, at least six months old, and not pregnant or nursing. The sterilization system for local feral cats is carried out using Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), which means capturing, sterilizing, and returning them.

"We involve three veterinarians and five paramedics from Let's Adopt Indonesia," he added.

His side also routinely provides vaccination for cats, dogs, weasels, and monkeys. Hopefully this effort will maintain Jakarta as free rabies city.

RW 05 Head of Pramuka Island, Panggang Island Urban Village, Sairan appreciated this program much. Sterilization and vaccination for animals are considered to have a positive impact on the environment and public health.

"Hopefully our area will be free from rabies," he hoped.
