PPAPP Agency Intensifies Prevention of Violence Against Children

The Jakarta Agency of Women's Empowerment, Child Protection, and Population Control (PPAPP) keeps conducting protection and prevention of violence against children.

The main cause is difficult to determine

Jakarta PPAPP Agency Head, Iin Mutmainah stated, the Women's and Children's Protection Unit had taken various protective and recovery measures for the victims. Among them were providing legal and psychological services, facilitating victims to Temporary Shelter Homes, accompaniment, healthcare services, and fulfilling other victims' rights.

"The main cause is difficult to determine because many factors influence it, ranging from economic problems, dissatisfaction with the victim, to actions without clear reasons," she expressed, Thursday (7/17).

She explained comprehensive assistance to victims is also continuously provided, starting from receiving complaints, problem assessment, to further referrals according to the victims' needs.

Then various prevention efforts continue to be intensified to reduce child violence, including the provision of complaint channels spread across 44 complaint posts throughout districts, 24-hour services, and integration with applications such as Jakarta Aman, SAPA 129, and Jakarta Siaga 112.

Her agency also implemented Integrated Services through regulations such as Gubernatorial Regulation 397/2016 and 57/2022, which include psychological assistance, legal services, temporary shelter, and coordination with hospitals for victim services.

Aside that, the Jakarta Government promoted prevention through regulation and public campaigns, including Regional Regulation No. 8/2011 on Child Protection, the establishment of Child-Friendly City Task Force and TNP2K, and Prevention of Child Marriage (Gubernatorial Regulation No. 5/2020).

The Jakarta Government also conducted the 16 Days of Anti-Violence Campaign against Women and Children, provided safe houses, and held socialization and information dissemination through schools, BUMD, and the community.

"Besides handling, it also focuses on education and active community involvement. Hope we can create a safer and more suitable environment for children in Jakarta," he explained.

As information, there have been 641 reported cases of child violence during the period from January 1 to July 11, 2025.

The area with the highest number of cases is East Jakarta (168 cases), followed by North Jakarta (163 cases), West Jakarta (126 cases), South Jakarta (112 cases), and Central Jakarta (75 cases).

The most common type of violence is sexual violence with 398 cases, followed by psychological violence with 178 cases, and physical violence with 154 cases.
