Tinjau Waduk Pluit, Pramono Tekankan Modernisasi Alat Pengendali Banjir

Pramono Stresses Need for Modern Flood Control Tools

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung highlighted the importance of modernizing flood control equipment with more advanced technology. He conveyed this after inspecting Pluit Reservoir in North Jakarta on Tuesday (7/29).

"... modernization is necessary,"

"I told the heads of Water Resources (SDA) and Environment (LH) Agencies that modernization is necessary. We're still relying on heavy excavators to dredge the mud sediment," he said.

He noted that mud suction pumps are already used in developed countries. While acknowledging that the cost of such modernization is high, he stressed the need for careful planning in the procurement process.

During the visit, he also wanted to assess flood preparedness, as Pluit Reservoir plays a crucial role in preventing floods, especially in vital areas.

According to him, the flood monitoring coordination in Jakarta has improved, allowing water to recede more quickly and making flood management more efficient.

Pluit Reservoir, covering aroud 80 hectares and a catchment area of nearly 2,400 hectares, is one of the city's reservoir and pump house in Jakarta. A total of 10 pumps operate at this site with a capacity of 39 cubic meters per second.

For information, there are 202 locations throughout the city with more than 600 pumps prepared to control flood.

"I urge the Water Reservoir and Environment Agencies to keep maintaining these facilities, because they represent the face of Jakarta, especially when it comes to ensuring VVIP areas remain unaffected during floods," he said.
