City Council Supports Modernization of Jakarta's Flood Control Equipment

Jakarta City Council Deputy Chairman, Wibi Andrino supports Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung's plan to modernize flood control equipment. One of the example is the plan to shift from excavators to advanced mud pump technology, similar to those used in advanced countries.

I support Governor Pramono's plan

"I support Governor Pramono's plan to modernize flood control equipment in Jakarta," he said, Wednesday (7/30).

According to Wibi, the use of advanced mud pump technology is a form of adaptation to the challenges of climate change and rapid urbanization.

Pramono Stresses Need for Modern Flood Control Tools

He also emphasized that this program must be based on data-based planning, budget transparency, human resource training, and a clear and sustainable maintenance system.

"Nature-based solutions such as river revitalization and urban greening must continue to go, so that flood management does not only depend on tools, but also strengthens the capacity of the Jakarta environment," he added.

Previously, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung reviewed the Pluit Reservoir Pump House to ensure the readiness of flood control equipment. During the visit, he emphasized the importance of careful planning in procuring modern flood control equipment, even though it requires large costs.

He also reminded all flood control infrastructure, including 202 locations with more than 600 pumps in Jakarta, to continue to be maintained to protect the city from the threat of flooding.
