City - Public Works Ministry Signs MoU for Waste Management Synergy

The Jakarta Government and the Ministry of Public Works, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on waste management synergy as a strategic step to improve the effectiveness of urban waste management comprehensively, measurably, and sustainably.

Waste management in Jakarta can be significantly improved

Jakarta Environment Agency Head, Asep Kuswanto, said this collaboration will be the key to addressing the waste management challenges in Jakarta, which amount to over 7,700 tons per day.

"This synergy includes the development of master plans and technical studies for waste management, technical guidance, and the improvement of supporting infrastructure for waste management, including strengthening facilities at Bantargebang Landfill," he expressed, Thursday (8/7).

He explained, the Jakarta Government is also committed to improving the operation and maintenance of all existing waste management facilities, as well as strengthening waste management measures from upstream to downstream.

Starting from strengthening waste banks and Jakarta Recycle Center, developing RDF facilities, to optimizing the Bantargebang waste-to-energy plant.

"Through this cooperation, waste management in Jakarta can be significantly improved to support the realization of Jakarta as a sustainable global city," he explained.

Cipta Karya Director General for Public Works Ministry, Dewi Chomistriana, emphasized the full support of the central government. They will provide technical guidance starting from the preparation of master plans, studies and technical planning, technical guidance, to the construction of facilities for leachate management, landfill gas, and landfill reinforcement at Bantargebang Landfill.

"This synergy will strengthen Jakarta towards a safer, modern, and sustainable waste management system," she stated.
