To promote financial literacy among market traders and to realize Jakarta as a global city, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung launched the Market Digitalization Competition on July 22, 2025.

As many as 20 traditional markets in Jakarta are involved in this competition. One of the markets is Gondangdia Market in Menteng, Central Jakarta.

The Assistant for Economic and Financial Affairs of Jakarta, Suharini Eliawati visited the market to find out how digital transaction activities in this market are running, Thursday (7/8). She was accompanied by the Head of Bapenda Lusiana Herawati, the President Director of Perumda Pasar Jaya Agus Himawan Widiyanto, the Head of OJK Jabodebek Edwin Nurhadi and the Head of the Licensing and Implementation Division of the Payment System Policy of Bank Indonesia (BI) Jakarta Province Hery Afrianto.

Based on the results of this monitoring and visit, the majority of market traders in this market have implemented the QRIS transaction method, in addition to accepting cash payments from consumers.

Mustahim (38), an egg trader, admitted has been using digital payment via QRIS application since a year ago.

Besides being safer, according to Mustahim, digital transactions also allow him to know in real time the funds entering his account when making a transaction.

"20 percent of my transaction at the store is using QRIS. I feel more comfortable when running business transactions using QRIS," he admitted.

The Assistant for Economic and Financial Affairs of Jakarta, Suharini Eliawati explained Jakarta Provincial Government continues to encourage banking to more widely educate the public about the importance of non-cash payments.

"One of the goals of this competition is to promote digital literacy and improve transaction security. We also hope that residents will return to shopping at Perumda Pasar Jaya's traditional markets," she explained.

Meanwhile, Head of OJK Jabodebek, Edwin Nurhadi said five banks are also involved in this competition. Those are BNI, BRI, BCA, Mandiri, and Bank Jakarta.

This competition has three main assessment categories. First, the best and most comprehensive financial literacy program. Second, financial access, including credit provision and account opening. Third, implementation of smart practices. And fourth, the best implementation of financial digitalization in the market.

"We want to replicate digital payments that can be implemented in 153 traditional markets managed by Perumda Pasar Jaya," he stated.
