Pramono's Transportation Policy Appreciated at ASEAN 2025 Forum

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung spoke at the ASEAN Sustainable Urbanisation Forum (ASUF) 2025 on the second day of his working visit to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Jakarta's long-term plan to become one of the top 20 global cities in the world

Its presence in this forum affirms Jakarta's seriousness in reaching the Top 20 Global Cities by 2045 by placing sustainability as the main foundation of city development.

"Today I want to share Jakarta's long-term plan to become one of the top 20 global cities in the world. This journey will be undertaken through sustainable transformation, strong collaboration, and shared progress, in line with the spirit of ASEAN," he expressed, as quoted by Jakarta Government's press release, Tuesday (8/12).

He explained that Jakarta is currently ranked 74th in Kearney’s 2024 Global Cities Index. To improve its ranking, Jakarta has prepared a roadmap toward 2045 that includes strengthening human resources, bureaucratic transformation, cultural identity reinforcement, transparent public communication, as well as reducing emissions and developing environmentally friendly infrastructure.

Pramono emphasized that Jakarta's role in the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 is realized through various priority initiatives.

"We made the Jakarta Future Festival as a platform for inclusive policy dialogue and citizen engagement. We implement gender-responsive governance through women-specific public transportation services such as Transjakarta buses for women, and the White Army community health program which prioritizes home health services for the elderly. We also develop vocational training centers to produce a workforce ready for the market, and expand the JAKI application to make public services more connected and easily accessible," he explained.

He concluded his speech with a call to strengthen cross-sector collaboration in ASEAN.

"Jakarta will continue to lead national development and stand as a globally connected city, where no one is left behind," he added.

On the same occasion, Home Deputy Minister, Bima Arya, also attended to deliver a speech. He outlined the sustainability program implemented by President Prabowo Subianto and expressed appreciation for the Jakarta Government's policy requiring civil servants to use public transportation every Wednesday.

"This policy is a bold step to encourage behavioral change for sustainability. Jakarta provides a real example that transformation must start from the government," he stated.
