The Jakarta Youth and Sports Agency (Dispora) has consistently been building and revitalizing sports facilities such as sports arenas (GOR) in recent years.
This revitalization is done gradually
Based on the data gathered, 27 sports facilities and infrastructure locations have been built and improved from 2023 to 2025, including the construction of the Dispora office building which will have sports facilities and meeting rooms to accommodate the aspirations of young people and athletes.
Jakarta Dispora Head, Andri Yansyah said that during that period, the Jakarta Government was actively doing improvement and the construction of sports facilities.
Jakarta Gears Up to Host POPNAS XVII and Peparpenas XI 2025Besides repairing damaged infrastructure, this effort also aims to ensure that the community has a representative sports facility, following national and even international standards.
"This revitalization is done gradually, from improving the sub-district's GOR, building new sports facilities, to renovating major venues," he expressed, Wednesday (8/20).
From a development perspective, more modern and comprehensive sports facilities will provide greater opportunities for children and teenagers to train from a young age.
He explained that it is also intended to promote a culture of sports among the broader community. Comfortable, multi-purpose sports facilities close to residents will serve as a magnet for both communities and individuals to exercise regularly.
"With facilities that meet standard conditions, it is hoped to produce potential athlete seedlings from various sports that can bring honor to Jakarta and even Indonesia on the international stage. Additionally, these facilities also play an important role in creating a healthy lifestyle and improving the quality of life for Jakarta residents," he explained.
He added that this is in line with Jakarta's designation as the host city for the National Student Sports Week (POPNAS) by the Ministry of Youth and Sports. There are 32 venues to be used in the event, and all of them are being prepared to be ready for use before POPNAS takes place.
"Since we are the host, all venues are automatically repaired to meet standards. The target is of course to finish before POPNAS begins," he added.
Then the government is also preparing a follow-up plan until 2026 to build a larger-scale sports arena. Not only about sports, the Dispora also encourages the revitalized facilities to become spaces that drive the local economy.
"MSME will have access to open businesses around the sports complex. Thus, the presence of sports facilities is not only beneficial for residents engaging in physical activities but also has a positive impact on the community's economy," he uttered.
