Jakarta Deserves to Be Women and Child-Friendly City Role Model, Commission E Chairman Says

Jakarta City Council's Commission E Chairman, KH Muhammad Thamrin, appreciated the collaboration between Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung and Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection, Arifatul Choiri Fauzi in an effort to reduce violence number against women and children.

"We support the collaboration in an effort to strengthening protection of women and children," he said, Thursday (8/28).

He added that Jakarta deserves to be a role model for a women and child-friendly city, especially with the Indonesian Shared Space program, the 129 call center service, and the urban village-based single data system.

Thamrin reminded strengthening the role of families and communities will be the key to Jakarta's success as a role model for a women and child-friendly city.

"Complaint service is not enough to prevent the violence. Root of the problems such as economic difficulties, child-rearing patters, and the impact of gadget use must also be a concern," he added.

Moreover, he also encouraged Jakarta Provincial Government to expand family education program, women's economic empowerment, and digital literacy to prepare the community with various challenges.

"Hopefully this cross-sectoral collaboration will run consistently and seriously in order to create a safe, inclusive, and friendly city for our women and children," he hoped.
