Floating Market Stall to Enliven the Environmental Love Festival 2025

The floating market stall in the shape of a Rooster, created by the Waste Management Unit (UPS) for Koja Sub-district Water Body, North Jakarta, is ready to enliven the Environmental Love Festival 2025 (Cilung) on September 28, 2025.

We suggest it is better to use boats as a place for business

Koja Sub-district Water Body's UPS Supervisor, Munawir said, the Si Jago floating stall was inspired from Ayam Jago (the Rooster), which symbolizes strength and diligence.

"We see many street vendors selling along the edge of the reservoir; rather than disturbing pedestrians, we suggest it is better to use boats as a place for business," he expressed, Wednesday (9/24).

Fishing Festival on Sabira Island Attracts Enthusiastic Participants

He explained, the making process took about four months or since early June. In its production, all the UPS staff contributed ideas and effort, meaning this creative boat was a collaborative effort.

"The materials for building this floating stall are from old trash from the river and reservoir. Then they are cleaned and washed again," he explained.

To make a floating stall boat measuring 10 meters in length, six meters in width, and three meters in height, 1,600 recycled bottles and 160 mineral gallon bottles were used.

"We also use leftover bamboo from selling sacrificial pens and hundreds of plastic and detergent packaging that cannot be decomposed," he explained.

He added that after the Cilung festival, this boat would sail around Rawa Badak Reservoir as it had had an engine. This boat can carry about 20 people and is expected to serve as an example to the community for recycling.

"We're ready and enthusiastic to enliven the Cilung Festival this year, which is also participated in by 42 other boats from Jakarta. We also hope to become a favorite in this festival," he exclaimed.

Meanwhile, one resident of Rawa Badak Selatan Urban Village, Ningtyas (33), expressed admiration upon seeing the decorated boat made by UPS personnel, Koja Sub-district.

She explained that making this boat serves as an education for residents that trash can become useful items and raises awareness for them to always maintain cleanliness.

"The boat is very unique and beautiful; surely this won't be easy. If this boat sails on the reservoir, it will definitely be enthusiastically welcomed by the residents, especially the children," she said.
