East Jakarta Remains Free of Rabies

The East Jakarta Food Security, Marine, and Agriculture Sub-agency (KPKP) keeps maintaining the Rabies-Free status in the area, both through rabies vaccinations and sterilization of cats as rabies-transmitting animals.

Rabies must be prevented through vaccination and sterilization

East Jakarta KPKP Sub-agency Head, Taufik Yulianto said, the officers continue to efforts to prevent the spread of rabies by involving organizations, such as UPT Pusyankeswannak for KPKP Agency, Indonesian Environment Care Foundation, Let's Adopt Indonesia, Sehati Cat Lovers Community, and so on.

"We also held the East Jakarta City Level World Rabies Day commemoration last weekend by providing free vaccination and sterilization services," he expressed, Thursday (9/25).

1,714 Cats in East Jakarta Successfully Sterilized

He explained, fifteen dogs, 202 cats, and one monkey were vaccinated against rabies.

"We also successfully sterilized 400 male cats," he explained.

He added there was also a Communication, Education, and Information (CEI) activity attended by 200 students from 12 elementary schools.

"Early education is very important so that they are aware of the dangers of rabies, which is transmitted from pets such as dogs, cats, and monkeys," he added.

He is optimistic that the target of 2,000 cats to be sterilized in 2025 can be achieved. Because, currently, approximately 1,750 cats have already been sterilized.

"Rabies must be prevented through vaccination and sterilization. Let's take care of the health of animals and ourselves," he stressed.
