Commission B Wants Central Government to Support Transportation Subsidies

Jakarta City Council Commission B Chairperson, Nova Harivan Paloh proposed that the central government also assist in funding the Public Service Obligation (PSO) or public service subsidies for the transportation sector in Jakarta.

The possibility of cooperation is being explored

This proposal was submitted following a cut in Revenue Sharing Fund (DBH) by Rp 15 trillion, which is believed to affect the City Budget (APBD) in covering the PSO subsidy burden. Moreover, transportation services like Transjakarta also serve the Bodetabek area (Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi).

"Currently, the possibility of cooperation is being explored, because the reduction in DBH will definitely impact the regional financial capacity," he expressed, Wednesday (10/8).

Commission B and Executive Discuss Transportation Subsidies

He emphasized that the discussion of subsidy assistance from the central government is still in the exploratory stage and there have been no further discussions.

"For the implementation, I think there hasn't been any further information so far," he continued.

He added, the proposal will be brought to the City Council's Budget Committee (Banggar) for review together with the leadership and the executive.

In the previous meeting, they also evaluated PSO costs, including efforts to increase non-farebox revenue and optimize the ticketing system to reduce transportation subsidy burdens in the capital.

"This PSO is essentially for the benefit of all Jakarta residents. Hence, we continue to prioritize improving public transportation services for the community," he stated.
