Jakarta Literacy Festival 2025 Presents a Space for Community and Public Encounters

The largest literacy event in the capital, the Jakarta Literacy Festival 2025, will be held again at the Promenade Planetarium area of Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM) from October 14 to 19, 2025.

This public event is part of a larger series of the Pustakarsa Festival (Libraries, Archives, and Literature), which serves as a platform to celebrate literacy, archives, and literature in Jakarta.

Carrying the theme 'Moving Communities, Inspired Literacy', this year's Jakarta Literacy Festival highlights the important role of communities in promoting literacy. Through this theme, the organizers invite various communities in Jakarta to actively participate, both as event contributors, exhibition participants, and workshop facilitators.

Jakarta Library and Archives Agency Head, Nasruddin Djoko Surjono said, literacy is not only limited to reading activities but also evolves into a social movement involving all segments of society. This festival serves as a momentum to increase public awareness of literacy.

"We want to present literacy that is close, inclusive, and enjoyable. Through community collaboration, literacy can grow organically from the community for the community," he expressed, Wednesday (10/15).

He explained, Jakarta Literacy Festival 2025 is not just a celebration event, but a collective movement. Hopefully, the presence of the community in every session can create spaces for meeting, learning, and having fun with literacy.

"With a combination of exhibitions, discussions, entertainment, and interactive activities, this festival aims to encourage the community to adopt literacy as a daily lifestyle," he explained.

As information, the Jakarta Literacy Festival 2025 features various events, ranging from a cheap book bazaar in collaboration with IKAPI Central, to literacy performances and community exhibitions.

Aside that, visitors can participate in literacy workshops, seminars, talk shows, cultural discussions on reading, and writing training. Then, the organizers also provide books and reading materials that can be accessed free of charge by the public.

Several special events enliven the festival, including Picnic Reading which invites the community to read together in a relaxed atmosphere, the Collaboration Stage as a space for cross-community expression, and City and Word Exploration that combines literacy with city exploration. With these varied programs, the committee aims to attract around 3,000 visitors to attend and enliven the event.

This Jakarta Literacy Festival 2025 also serves as a platform for more than 15 literacy communities, such as Bale Buku Jakarta, Bukuku Club, Jakarta Community Reading Forum, Fun Garden of Literacy, Jejak Seribu, Kargo Baca, Read Aloud Jakarta, Rainbow Reading Garden, Ayo Dongeng Indonesia, Reading Bugs, Baca Bareng SBC Jakarta, Kawanpuan, Kumpulbaca, Buku Buat Semua, Buibu Baca Buku, and Patjarmerah.

Each community will offer activities according to their character and focus, ranging from children's storytelling, youth discussions, to reading rooms for parents.

In addition to the community, several literacy figures, creators, and artists across various fields are also participating. Names such as Ariyo Faridh Zidni, a storyteller from Ayo Dongeng Indonesia; Wantja, an illustrator and doodle creator; Ligwina Hananto, a financial literacy educator; and actress Hannah Al Rashid, co-founder of Kawanpuan, will be appearing to host the event.

Musicians namely Adhitia Sofyan, illustrator Puty Puar; editor and founder of Patjar Merah, Windy Ariestanty, and young singer Anneth Dellicecia will also be present.

Bookstagrammers like Alya Putri, Wahyu Novianto, and Rifqah Fairuz also enliven the literacy scene by sharing their experiences related to the world of books.
