MRT Jakarta Buys 8 New Trainsets from Japanese Companies

PT MRT Jakarta signed a contract agreement for Package Contract CP206: Design, Manufacturing, and Delivery of MRT Jakarta Phase 2A Facilities, which is an important step in the continuation of the MRT Jakarta track from Bundaran HI to Kota.

Those eight trainsets were purchased to meet passenger needs so that the operational headway for Lebak Bulus - Kota route remains optimal.

The contract was signed by Construction Director for PT MRT Jakarta, Weni Maulina, and a representative of Sumitomo Corporation, Takeshi Noguchi, in the presence of PT MRT Jakarta President Director, Tuhiyat.

To execute this contract, Sumitomo Corporation will collaborate with Nippon Sharyo to design and manufacture trainsets with a project duration of 238 weeks.

Construction Director for PT MRT Jakarta, Weni Maulina stated, the procurement of facilities becomes an important part that ensures the integration between infrastructure, systems, and operations runs smoothly.

"MRT Jakarta train, also known as Ratangga, is one of the pioneers in the modern urban railway industry in Indonesia. It has advanced features, customers enjoy a good experience during their journey with Ratangga," he expressed, Thursday (10/23).

Tsuyoshi Nakamura from Sumitomo Corporation expressed his appreciation for the continued trust given to Sumitomo Corporation.

"It is a great honor for us to be trusted again in providing the MRT Jakarta Phase 2A railway infrastructure, after previously contributing to the success of the first phase," he explained.

He assessed, this cooperation is more than just an infrastructure project; it also symbolizes the friendship and collaboration between Indonesia and Japan towards a better future.

"Together with our partner, Nippon Sharyo, we are committed to providing railway infrastructure with the highest standards to support MRT Jakarta in building a transportation system that connects communities and fosters economic growth and urban development," he added.

As information, the progress of MRT Jakarta Phase 2A construction has reached 53.32 percent as of September 25, 2025. The implementation of CP206 will complete the overall system readiness, ensuring that MRT Jakarta Phase 2A operates on schedule with high safety, comfort, and reliability standards.
