Jakarta Govt Prepares Catchment Area to Address Flooding in Jati Padang

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung accompnaied by South Jakarta Mayor and other relevant officials, conducted an on-site inspection of the collapsed embankment in Jati Padang, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (11/4).

"The seven-hectare site will serve as a catchment area,"

The embankment collapsed following heavy rainfall on Thursday (10/30), which triggered flooding in nearby residential area.

During the visit, Pramono emphasized the need for an immediate response, starting with repairs to stabilize the situation for affected residents. To prevent future incidents, the Jakarta Provincial Government has prepared two plans: short-term and medium-to-long-term solutions.

"There are two steps we'll take. First, in the short term, we'll repair the collapsed embankment around 40 meters," he mentioned.

As for the medium-to-long-term solution, Pramono highlighted the need for a comprehensive approach, considering that Jati Padang is a catchment area and one of the outlets for Krukut River.

"Since this is a catchment area and also one of the outlets for Krukut River, it must be addressed through with a medium-to-long-term plan," he said.

The plan includes the development of a seven-hectare catchment area, which will also be used for building low-cost apartments and recreational facilities. This integrated approach aims to deliver more sustainable and thorough flood mitigation.

"The seven-hectare site will serve as a catchment area, housing complex, and public recreational space," he added.

Meanwhile, RW 06 Head Abdul Kohar reported that around 1,500 families across RT 03, RT 04, and RT 14 in RW 06 were affected by the flooding. He confirmed that all evacuated residents have returned to their homes.

"Alhamdulillah, we've managed to handle the situation together," he expressed.
