Getting to Know Mr. Dede, Satpol PP Officer who is Skilled in English

Dede Wahyudi, who is popularly known as Mr. Dede, a Satpol PP officer in Srengseng Urban Village, Kembangan Sub-district, West Jakarta, went viral due to his proficiency in English while on duty.

Happy and proud to have been called by the Governor to his office 

By frequently using English, he received immediate attention from Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung. Some time ago, he was directly invited by the governor to his office for a warm chat and was given motivation.

"Happy and proud to have been called by the Governor to his office at the City Hall, Central Jakarta," he expressed, Tuesday (11/11).

He feels happy and proud because his English-speaking ability has earned him praise from netizens and made him known as a modern and adaptive Satpol PP figure.

"I learned English autodidactically by watching movies and listening to songs since the late 1990s. In fact, I also often interacted with foreign tourists visiting Jakarta," he explained.

He expressed feeling very proud mixed with emotion when he was invited to sit in the seat of the number one person in Jakarta. This became an experience he would always remember.

In fact, this 46-year-old also shares his knowledge with children in his neighborhood. He becomes an English private tutor for elementary school children during holidays.

"I have been teaching elementary school children for four months now. The mothers asked me to help. I teach them to read, memorize, and how to speak," he explained.

He went on to say that he has been serving in the Satpol PP for 25 years, having been stationed in various areas such as South Jakarta and North Jakarta, before finally being transferred to Srengseng, West Jakarta three years ago.

"I used to be a non-permanent employee, but now Alhamdulillah (thank God), I am a civil servant. Still, I feel that this career journey is not just about discipline and enforcing rules, but also about the process of continuous learning and inspiring others," he explained.

He hoped to also inspire his colleagues in the field to provide better service to the community through English.

Currently, he is also helping to teach the Satpol PP the basics of how to speak to others using English.

"Despite not proficient, at least we can serve the residents in English. I'll also continue to learn to deepen and expand my English vocabulary well," he continued.

Jakarta Satpol PP Head, Satriadi Gunawan highly appreciates Dede for helping to further enhance the positive image of the Jakarta Satpol PP.

"He has his own charm while on duty. Additionally, he can also strengthen the image of the Satpol PP as humane," he added.

He wants other Satpol PP officers to also learn English and be able to apply it, considering that Jakarta is also preparing to become a global city.

"I think this ability is very necessary, including in the implementation of tasks to enforce the Bylaw because many foreigners visit Jakarta," he closed.
