Distamhut Strengthens Tree Monitoring to Face Rainy Season

The Jakarta Parks and City Forest Agency (Distamhut) keeps strengthening preparedness by increasing the intensity of field activities, including pruning and health checks of trees.

To reduce the potential for fallen trees

From January to early November 2025, inspections have been executed on 63,444 trees and health checks on 6,513 trees.

Jakarta Distamhut Head, Fajar Sauri said, this is done routinely to ensure the safety of residents and road users, especially in heavily traveled areas.

Rainy Season, Tree Pruning in South Jakarta Intensified

"This effort covers the entire Jakarta region as a preventive measure to address the increasingly frequent extreme weather dynamics," he expressed, Tuesday (11/18).

Besides pruning, they also conducted tree risk mapping by combining spatial data collection, direct visual inspections, and measurements of crown and root conditions.

Through this method, trees with high-risk categories can immediately be given intensive care actions. These actions include reducing crown mass, installing braces, and recommending tree replacement if the condition is deemed to threaten public safety.

"These steps become part of a larger strategy to reduce the potential for fallen trees caused by extreme weather that often hits Jakarta," he explained.

With the increasing rainfall and the potential for strong winds until the end of the year, Fajar ensures that the entire field team is in full standby condition.

"Regular inspections and prompt handling are expected to minimize accident risks and ensure the comfort of residents' activities," he explained.

Earlier, he led the simultaneous tree pruning process in five city areas in a bid to strengthen preparedness in response to BMKG's forecast regarding the peak of the rainy season and strong winds.

This action involves personnel from across the region and serves as a commitment to maintaining public safety through sustainable tree care.

Considering the conditions and traffic density in Jakarta, Distamhut implements repaving and refurbishment on several busy road segments during weekends or at night to avoid disrupting community activities.

Those priority locations this time are Jalan Panjang, Jalan Moh Yamin, Sutan Syahrir, Jalan TB, Simatupang, Pasar Minggu, Jalan Danau Sunter Selatan, Jalan Dr. KRT Radjiman Widyodiningrat, and Jalan MT. Haryono.
