BPBD Strengthens Community Readiness for Extreme Weather

Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) held the 2025 Disaster Preparedness Relay Race, titled "Strong Women Action 2025", at Jakarta Fire and Rescue (Gulkarmat) Agency's Courtyard in Petojo Utara, Gambir, Central Jakarta.

This disaster education event aims to empower citizens to be better prepared for potential extreme weather and disasters.

Women aged 20–55 took part in the event as regional representatives, helping to promote disaster preparedness at the local level.

Mohamad Yohan, Head of the Disaster Data and Information Center at Jakarta BPBD, said the activity is part of the agency's efforts to build disaster awareness while strengthening women's coordination and response capabilities during emergencies. 

He noted that empowering the community is a key part of Jakarta’s disaster mitigation strategy.

"Through this activity, BPBD wants to ensure that the community understands basic emergency response steps, enabling them to provide first aid and take quick action when disaster occur," he asserted, Friday (11/21).

Jakarta BPBD will continue delivering disaster education through various programs such as community training, evacuation simulations, volunteer role enhancement, and extreme weather preparedness campaigns.

"This effort aims to strengthen the resilience of Jakarta's women in facing climate change and various disaster potentials," he mentioned.

For your information, the Disaster Preparedness Relay Competition consists of four main posts representing stages of emergency response. Through these posts, participants are trained to act quickly, in coordination, and accurately in disaster situations.

Here are the four main posts of the Disaster Preparedness Relay:

1. Disaster Preparedness Bag Post -  Participants are challenged to identify the essential contents of an emergency kit and explain their functions in response to emergencies.

2. Disaster Signage Post - Teams are required to determine and classify disaster signs according to BNPB standards

3. Basic Life Support (BLS) Post – Participants perform first aid, giving initial care to victims before medical personnel arrive.

4. Victim Evacuation Post - Teams carry out evacuation techniques using simple tools, such as stretchers made from sarongs and sticks, to move victims to a safe point.
