World Children's Day Momentum Emphasizes the Importance of Fulfilling Children's Rights

The Regional Leadership Council of the Early Childhood Education Providers Association (DPD PP-PAUD) and the Indonesian Kindergarten Teachers Association (IGTKI), together with the Jakarta Education Agency (Disdik), held the World Children's Day 2025 Commemoration at Nyi Ageng Serang Building, Jalan HR Rasuna Said, South Jakarta, Tuesday (11/25).

Children must feel safe, valued, and cared for in order to grow

This activity with the theme 'My Day, My Rights' was attended by 120 kindergarten students representing various schools from five regions of Jakarta. The participants engaged in various activities such as coloring, aerobics, and dancing.

Jakarta DPD PP-PAUD Chairwoman, Komariah Marullah said, the organization she led plays an important role as a bridge between PAUD service providers and policymakers, both at the central and regional levels.

"The momentum of World Children's Day 2025 is an opportunity to reaffirm the importance of fulfilling children's rights. Every child has rights that must be respected, protected, and fulfilled," she expressed.

She highlighted the rapid development of the digital world, which impacts children's psychology. Many children experience anxiety, low self-esteem, withdrawal from their environment, sleep difficulties, and gadget addiction. Additionally, children who are victims of violence are more vulnerable to depression, eating disorders, and feelings of insecurity during interactions.

"Hence, children need a space to express their opinions, receive love, feel safe, and get proper education so that their emotional regulation can be developed from an early age," she explained.

She then emphasized the importance of the role of parents and schools in creating a safe environment. Parents need to apply positive parenting patterns by opening up space for dialogue, establishing clear rules, and not fulfilling all of the child's wishes.

Komariah added that teachers also play an important role in building an inclusive classroom and being attentive to signs of violence or changes in students' behavior.

"Children must feel safe, valued, and cared for in order to grow into a strong generation, and children's rights are not only to be given but also to be taught to be fought for," she added.

Indonesian Kindergarten Teachers Association (IGTKI) Jakarta Chairwoman, Fera Fitriza, stated that this activity is not only intended to celebrate World Children's Day but also to provide space for children to express themselves, be creative, and experience a safe and enjoyable atmosphere.

"So, the organizers hope that children can directly feel how their rights are appreciated and facilitated within the educational environment," she stated.
